40 Year Anniversary Celebration!

Save the date! Sunday, June 2nd, 5pm. Rain date TBD.

In the fall of 1978, what was then called Florence Park underwent a major renovation and was dedicated and renamed to Palumbo Park.

This year, we have much to celebrate. In the last few months, over the course of a few working sessions, the friends group completed its first-ever bylaws, produced its first website, and recruited many new neighbors to serve in leadership roles.

By this time, we may also be able to cap off a recent paving and landscaping renovation, with the installation of protective fencing for our new plants.

Please join friends and neighbors as we gather in the park to reflect, relax, and listen to some great music.

Blackbird Society Orchestra has played around the neighborhood many at time, including the Saloon and other neighborhood parks. The Blackbird Society Orchestra plays authentic 1920s and 1930s jazz by the likes of Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti from that period.

Last fall, Richard Barnes, the band’s leader, and Eugene Desyatnik, Palumbo Park member and BVNA President, collected signatures in order to approve the subtitling and co-naming St Albain’s Place as Eddie Lang Way, in honor of the historically significant musician that lived on that block – just a stone’s throw away from Palumbo Park. Two years prior, a mural of Eddie Lang was installed at 7th and Fitzwater.

The event will honor a number of recent achievements in the park, including hopeful fencing installation, a new set of bylaws, new volunteers, and its 40 year anniversary as Palumbo Park.

We hope you can join us!
